Linguaskill scores: the test now reports B1 to C2, and anything below B1 is "Not reported"

Linguaskill is Cambridge's online, adaptive, modular English test: Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking, taken separately or together, often at a university or employer rather than at a public exam session. On the pages we read on 19 October 2026 it assesses English from B1 to C2, on four score bands.

That floor matters. A module that scores below B1 is not given a number at all: the certificate prints Not reported against it. Everything below is from Cambridge English's Linguaskill pages ("Information about the exam" and "How results are presented"), read that day.

The four bands

Cambridge's score and level table: B1 is 140 to 159. B2 is 160 to 179. C1 is 180 to 199. C2 is 200 to 210.

Those are the same numbers the Cambridge English Scale uses across Cambridge's paper exams, where 160–179 also means B2 and 180–199 C1. A Linguaskill 175 and a B2 First 175 sit at the same point on the same scale.

If you have seen older Linguaskill tables starting at A1 or ending at "C1 or above", they describe a different reporting range. The page we read lists no band below B1 and names C2 as its top.

Not reported, Not taken, and the average

The certificate reports each module you took. If a module scores below the B1 reporting range, it shows Not reported. A module you did not sit shows Not taken.

It also prints an average score of the modules scoring B1 or higher. Read that clause literally: a module below B1 is outside the average, so the average describes only the modules that reached the scale. Check what the organisation asking for Linguaskill wants, the average, every module, or both.

Retaking one module

Linguaskill's My best score lets you retake one module without sitting the other three skills again. For the new result to be linked to the original one, the retake must use the same candidate login and be taken with the same test centre.

Results times and expiry

Results are available from three working days after the test. Cambridge's table depends on the session: for up to 500 candidates, 3 to 5 days in a centre and 6 to 8 days remotely; 10 days for 500 to 1,499 candidates; 15 days for 1,500 to 2,999.

A Linguaskill certificate has no expiry date. Cambridge adds that organisations accepting it can choose how recently the test must have been taken, so a university or employer may still ask for a recent result.

Results are shared through Cambridge's test portal, Metrica, with the organisation's Results Verification Service account. For how Linguaskill sits beside IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo and TOEIC, see our comparison.

Mistakes worth avoiding

  • Expecting a score for a weak module.

Expecting "Not reported" if that module falls below B1.

Cambridge says a module below the B1 reporting range shows Not reported on the certificate.

  • Retaking a module at a different centre or with a new login.

Using the same login and the same test centre.

Both are conditions for the retake to be linked to your original results.

Questions

What is a good Linguaskill score?

It depends on the level you are asked for. Cambridge reports 140 to 159 as B1, 160 to 179 as B2, 180 to 199 as C1 and 200 to 210 as C2.

What does "Not reported" mean on a Linguaskill certificate?

The module scored below the B1 reporting range, so no score is given for it. "Not taken" means the module was not sat.

Does a Linguaskill certificate expire?

No. Cambridge says there is no expiry date, but organisations can choose how recently the test must have been taken.

Can I retake one Linguaskill module?

Yes. My best score lets you retake one module without the other three skills, if you use the same login and the same test centre.

How long do Linguaskill results take?

From three working days. For sessions of up to 500 candidates, Cambridge gives 3 to 5 days in a centre and 6 to 8 days remotely; larger sessions take 10 to 15 days.
