Terms of Service

1. Your account

You need an account to book lessons, enroll in courses, or teach. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for activity on your account. Everyone who signs up directly is a student; teaching access is granted only through an approved teacher application, and you agree the information you provide (including your name and email) is accurate.

You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your country to use Kololingo on your own. Accounts are for a single person and may not be shared.

2. Lessons, courses, and instant calls

Kololingo offers three ways to learn, all delivered by independent teachers:

• One-to-one lessons — scheduled sessions you book with a teacher. A booking is confirmed when the teacher accepts it.
• Instant lessons — on-demand conversation practice with a teacher who is live right now, billed per minute for the time you are connected, with no advance booking.
• Recorded courses — self-paced curricula built by teachers, with video lessons and quizzes. Enrolling gives you ongoing access to that course’s materials.

Teachers are independent professionals, not employees of Kololingo. They set their own availability, curriculum, and rates. We provide the platform, the lesson room, scheduling, and payment handling, but the teaching itself is between you and your teacher.

3. Prices and payments

Prices are shown before you confirm and are set by each teacher. Payments for lessons and courses are processed by our payment provider; Kololingo keeps a commission and passes the remainder to the teacher. Instant lessons are priced at the teacher’s per-minute rate and settled when the call ends.

4. Cancellations, credits, and refunds

If you cancel a confirmed lesson at least 12 hours before it starts, the lesson is returned to you as a lesson credit you can use to rebook with the same teacher for the same length of lesson. Requested lessons a teacher has not yet accepted can be cancelled at any time. If a teacher cancels, you always get your credit back.

Refunds are issued as lesson credits, not cash — money refunds are not available yet. If you miss a lesson without cancelling in time, the teacher may mark it as a no-show and it is treated as delivered. The full, worked-through policy — including timing and no-shows — lives on our support page.

Some lesson packages carry a validity window set by the teacher — for example, credits valid for 180 days from the day the teacher accepts your first lesson. Where a package has one, it is shown on the package before you buy it, and the remaining time is shown with your credits. Credits you have not booked by the end of that window lapse, and the teacher is paid for them: they held that time for you. Packages sold without a validity window do not expire, and neither does money you have added to your wallet.

5. If you teach on Kololingo

Teachers keep ownership of the courses and materials they create and grant Kololingo the licence needed to host and deliver them to enrolled students. You are responsible for teaching the lessons you accept, for the accuracy of your profile, and for any taxes on your earnings. Payouts are made through the payout methods you configure in your teacher dashboard.

6. Acceptable use

Treat teachers, students, and staff with respect. Do not use Kololingo for anything unlawful, harassing, or fraudulent, do not attempt to move payments off-platform to avoid our terms, and do not misuse the lesson room, chat, or reviews. We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.

7. Disclaimers and liability

Kololingo is provided “as is.” We work to keep the service reliable but do not guarantee it will always be uninterrupted or error-free, and we are not responsible for the outcome of any individual lesson. To the extent the law allows, our liability to you is limited to the amounts you paid us for the service in question.

8. Changes and contact

We may update these terms as the product evolves; when we do, we will revise the “last updated” date above and, for significant changes, let you know. Continuing to use Kololingo after an update means you accept the revised terms. Questions? Reach us any time through the support page.
