How to ask a colleague to cover a lesson (teachers)
Ask a colleague to cover lets you hand one booked lesson to another KoloLingo teacher when you can't teach it, for example when you're ill or travelling. Your colleague says yes first, then your student agrees. Only then does the lesson move.
Which lessons you can hand over
A one-to-one lesson that is booked, accepted and still at least 75 minutes away. These stay with you:
- lessons from a package or booked with a package credit (the package belongs to the teacher who sold it);
- practice lessons;
- lessons with a co-teacher or a second student (remove them first, or teach the lesson together instead);
- lessons where your move request is still waiting for the student's answer.
Asking a colleague
- Open the lesson from your calendar or your lessons.
- Under Ask a colleague to cover, press Ask a colleague to cover.
- Type a colleague's name. You only see teachers who teach the lesson's language. Each one is marked Free, Has a lesson then or Not open then; you can pick a colleague who is Free.
- Add a note if you like: what you're working on, which materials to use. Your student doesn't see the note.
- Press Send request.

The lesson page now shows where the request stands and when it closes if nobody answers. You can Withdraw request at any time before your student agrees.
When a colleague asks you
You'll get a notification and an email. Open More → Cover requests (or the request from your dashboard's Needs you). You see the time, the length, the student's first name and the note.
- Accept: the student is asked to agree. If they do, the lesson is yours: it's in your calendar, the room and the lesson plan are yours, and the earning is in your upcoming earnings, on your own commission terms.
- Decline: nothing changes, and the teacher who asked is told.

What happens to the lesson
- Same time, same room link, same price for the student.
- The lesson leaves the first teacher's calendar and upcoming earnings, and the room is the new teacher's.
- The lesson plan and materials go with the lesson.
- A review the student leaves after the lesson is for the teacher who taught it.
- If nobody answers in time (at the latest an hour before the lesson), the request closes and the lesson stays where it was.
