How to ask a colleague to cover a class session (teachers)

Ask a colleague to cover now works for group classes too. When you can't teach one session, another KoloLingo teacher can teach it for you. The class, its students and every other session stay yours.

How to ask

  1. Open your class and go to Class schedule.
  2. Next to the session, choose Ask a colleague to cover.
  3. Search for a colleague. Only teachers who teach the language and are free at that time can be chosen.
  4. Add a note if you like, and send.

Your colleague sees the date, the class, the number of seats and exactly what they would earn. They have until shortly before the session to answer.

When your colleague answers

  • Yes: they host that session's room, and your students get a notification and an email saying who is teaching it. The session shows "Taught by" your colleague everywhere it appears. You won't be able to open that session's room yourself.
  • No: the session stays yours, and you can ask someone else.

You can withdraw your request any time before the session starts. The session is then yours again, and your students are told.

How your colleague is paid

Once the session is taught, what you would have kept for it goes to your colleague: your earnings from the seats, divided by the number of sessions in the class. KoloLingo's commission and any school share are the same as before.

  • Your colleague is paid only if they joined the session. If they didn't, nothing moves to them and you're told.
  • If more students join before your colleague answers, the amount changes and they see the new figure before saying yes.

For the colleague being asked

Your requests are in Cover requests (under More in the menu), in the Class sessions section. Once you accept, the session is in your calendar, and Join the session appears there shortly before it starts.
