Gifts: when someone gives lessons with you (teachers)
Your students, and the people around them, can now give lessons as a gift: a birthday, a graduation, a "good luck with the exam". The person who gets the gift finds the amount on their KoloLingo balance and books lessons with it. A gift that starts on your profile can be kept for lessons with you only.
Where gifts start
On your public profile, visitors see a button: Give lessons with [your name] as a gift (you don't see it when you look at your own profile). Whoever presses it picks an amount, writes a message, and chooses what the gift can be used for:
- For lessons with you only. The gift is kept for you: the person who opens it can spend it only on your lessons, packages, courses, group classes and voice reviews, and it is used first whenever they book you. It never goes to another teacher.
- Any teacher. The gift becomes ordinary balance they can use with any teacher, you included.
We email the gift to the person they choose.

You can share it yourself too. Your gift link is https://kololingo.com/gifts/new?teacher= followed by the last part of your profile address: for example, if your profile is …/tutors/olena-k, your gift link ends in …/gifts/new?teacher=olena-k.
Good moments to share it: before birthdays and holidays, when a student's family asks how they can help, or after a student passes an exam.
What it means for you
- You are paid as usual. A gift becomes the student's balance. When they book a lesson with you and pay from their balance, the lesson is like any other lesson: same price, same earnings, same payout. A gift for you only works the same way; it simply can't be spent with anyone else.
- A lesson paid with a gift for you stays with you. If you ask a colleague to cover it, we say it can't be handed over (the gift was for lessons with you). Cancel and rebook instead if you need to: the money goes back to the student's gift balance for you.
- Nothing to set up. The button is on every teacher's profile.
- You don't see the personal message. It is between the person who gives and the person who receives.
- If you close your KoloLingo account, gifts kept for lessons with you become ordinary balance for your students, so they can carry on with another teacher. We tell each of them.
What your students might ask
- "Can I use it for any teacher?" It depends on what the giver chose. A gift for lessons with you only can only be spent with you; the student's balance shows it as "$… for lessons with [your name]". A gift for any teacher can be used with anyone. Gifts given before 19 October 2026 are all for any teacher.
- "How long do I have?" 3 years to open it. If it's never opened, the amount goes back to the person who gave it.
- "Can I get it as cash?" No, a gift is spent on lessons on KoloLingo and is never paid out.
- "I lost the email." The person who gave it can send it again from Gifts, or the student can paste the link under Have a gift link? on the Gifts page.
