Find your level: the free level test
Not sure what level you are? Take the new free level test before your first lesson. It takes about 12 minutes, you don't need an account, and it tells you your level and what to work on first. The teachers you book see your result, so your first lesson starts where you are.

Five short parts
The test adapts to you as you go, so it is never too easy or too hard for long.
- Words: is it a word you know? Some are not real words, so only say yes when you are sure.
- Complete the text: the first half of each word is there. Type the missing letters.
- Grammar: choose what fits the gap.
- Listening: listen, then answer. You can play each recording twice. In one question you write down what you hear.
- Reading: read a short text and answer three questions.
If you don't know an answer, tap I don't know. Guessing doesn't help your result. There is no going back, because each part is chosen from your answers so far.

Speaking (optional)
The last part is speaking. You read one sentence aloud, then answer two questions out loud, up to 45 seconds each. After each recording you see what we heard, and you can record again. Your speaking is rated against the CEFR speaking criteria: range, accuracy, fluency, how well you connect your ideas, and how clearly you come across. If you'd rather not, tap Skip speaking.
Your recordings are rated by AI, and the teachers you book can listen to them. We delete the recordings after 180 days.

Your result
You get your level on the CEFR scale from A1 to C2, with a sentence about what people at that level can do. Twelve minutes can't pin a level exactly, so we also show the range you are most likely in.

You also see:
- how your vocabulary, grammar, reading and listening compare with your overall level;
- the mistakes worth fixing first, with the right answer;
- the words to learn next. Tap Add them to my Notebook and they join your daily review, with their meaning in your language.

What you said, said better
The speaking part gives you your speaking level, what you do well, what to work on next, and your own sentences corrected. Add these to my Notebook puts the corrections in your daily review.

See your progress
Take the test again after a few weeks of lessons. Your result shows your progress over time, and it only says "clear progress" when the change is bigger than the test's own margin of error.
Keep it
If you took the test without an account, tap Create a free account on the result page and the result is saved to it. Your result shows on your dashboard under Your level.
Your teacher sees it
Once you book a lesson, your teacher sees your level, your mistakes and your words to learn before the first lesson. No more ten minutes spent working out your level.
Take it again
Take it as often as you like. When you are signed in, a retake gives you questions you haven't seen. Find it at kololingo.com/level-test, in the footer of every page, and on each language page.
