How much do Czech lessons cost?

On Preply's Czech tutors page, read on 22 October 2026, native and non-native Czech teachers cost exactly the same: $27 an hour. By the tutor's country of birth it lists Czechia and Ukraine at $27, Poland at $30 and Ireland at $33.

Before any of that, if you live in Czechia, there is a public route that may cost you nothing but your time. It comes first.

Before you pay anyone, including us

Czechia runs Centres for the Support of Integration of Foreigners (Centra na podporu integrace cizinců). Their site, published by the Ministry of the Interior's Refugee Facilities Administration, integracnicentra.cz, read on 22 October 2026, describes two kinds of Czech course: a basic course you can drop into once, without registering, built from practical stand-alone lessons, and intensive courses you must enrol in, organised by level from complete beginners up to B1, in blocks of 40 hours. Textbooks are provided free in every course.

The Centres are for foreigners legally resident long-term under the Residence of Foreigners Act and for holders of international protection, and they list free-of-charge service among their working principles. Ask your regional Centre what its current course costs and when the next intensive block starts; places are limited.

Private lessons are worth buying on top of that when you need speaking time, a timetable that fits shift work, or focused preparation for the A2 exam for permanent residence.

What Preply's Czech page says, read on 22 October 2026

By the tutor's country of birth: Czechia $27, Ukraine $27, Poland $30, Ireland $33 an hour.

Native against non-native: both $27 an hour. On this page there is no native premium at all.

No price range in the text. Unlike Preply's Greek and Hungarian pages, the Czech page prints no "range between" sentence for readers. Its structured data, the block written for search engines, reads "$22/hr to $38/hr (avg: $29/hr)".

The tutor cards are personalised by location: from our address in Denmark they quoted kronor per 50-minute lesson while the tables stayed in dollars per hour.

What moves the price in Czech specifically

The exam you are preparing for. Permanent residence needs Czech at A2, in an exam that costs 3,200 CZK; citizenship needs B1 (3,700 CZK) and a separate test of Czech realities (2,000 CZK), whose entire bank of 300 questions is published. Our guide to both has the pass marks. Exam preparation is usually priced above conversation.

Cases and verb aspect. Czech grammar is where most adult learners stall, and a teacher who learned Czech as an adult has had to understand it from the outside. On Preply that teacher costs the same or more, not less.

Lesson length. Compare per hour, always. Cards quote per 50-minute lesson; tables quote per hour.

The rate is per hour. The purchase often is not.

On Preply, lessons are bought as a subscription. Its help centre states you are charged automatically every 28 days for a fixed number of lessons, and that plan lessons not booked before the end of the cycle expire at renewal.

So compare on cost per lesson actually taken: the per-hour rate, the commitment, what happens to unused hours, and how you stop.

What we do, and where we are worse

We run a marketplace for language teachers, so we are not neutral. There is no subscription and no billing cycle, the wallet is 1:1 in US dollars with no expiry, and package terms are snapshotted at purchase. There is no unpaid-trial mechanic: the first lesson is paid at the teacher's normal rate.

Where that is worse. No cheap way to sample a teacher, and we just launched, with far less choice of Czech teachers than a site that has run for a decade. We do not print our own prices: teachers set and change them.

Mistakes worth avoiding

  • Paying for private Czech lessons before checking the integration centres.

Asking your regional Centre about its basic and intensive courses first.

integracnicentra.cz describes drop-in basic courses and intensive courses up to B1 in 40-hour blocks, with free textbooks, for long-term legal residents and holders of international protection.

  • Expecting a non-native Czech teacher to be cheaper.

Choosing by what you need explained, since the price is the same.

Preply's Czech page, read on 22 October 2026, lists native and non-native Czech speakers at the same $27 an hour.

  • Assuming the first A2 exam attempt is free.

    Budgeting 3,200 CZK.

The official exam site lists the fee and no free attempt.
