About me

Olá! I'm Emma, and I'd love to help you learn Portuguese. I've been teaching European Portuguese to adults for over 15 years, and I'm fascinated by how languages work and how people learn them. After eight years teaching in local language schools, I started my own Portuguese language school in 2010, helping people living in and around Central Portugal, as well as learners around the world. Portuguese that makes sense My approach combines structure, practical communication and a curiosity about the patterns that make Portuguese easier to understand. I believe learning a language is about much more than memorising vocabulary and grammar rules. It's about recognising patterns, training your ear, understanding pronunciation and learning how to use the language in real situations. I love finding clear, practical ways to explain things that seem complicated. By exploring the connections between Portuguese and English, we can often make sense of unfamiliar structures and remember them more easily. Learning for real life Whether you're preparing to move to Portugal, already living here, reconnecting with your Portuguese heritage or simply passionate about languages, my aim is to help you communicate confidently and naturally. I teach learners from complete beginners to advanced levels and also specialise in preparing students for the CIPLE A2 exam, often needed for Portuguese nationality applications. My exam preparation courses have an almost 100% pass rate. Over the years, I've helped thousands of adult learners progress in Portuguese. I understand that learning as an adult comes with its own challenges, so I focus on making lessons purposeful, manageable and rewarding. My teaching philosophy I believe the best learning happens when language is meaningful and contextualised — through stories, conversations and real-life situations.
